Recycling is mandatory in New York State and at Ithaca College. A comprehensive recycling program has been developed by the Resource and Environmental Management Program (REMP), a coalition of students, faculty, and staff responsible for managing resources on campus in an environmentally sensitive manner.
Recycling is simple and easy. You will find two bins in your room - a green bin and a blue bin. One the back of your door is a sticker that indicates what can be recycled in these bins. Simply place recyclable paper in the blue bin and recyclable containers in the green bin. You will find larger bins of a corresponding color outside your residence hall. Take the in-room bins to the larger bins outside and put the contents in the appropriate bins. You must take your own trash and recyling outside. Please do not leave such waste in the hallways or lounges for the housekeepers, they have their own full-time duties without having to take out your personal waste.
The in-room recycling bins are standard room furnishings and are on your room/apartment condition report form. You must keep these in your room, and we encourage you to use them. If you would like more information on our recycling program or other REMP activiites, check out REMP or call the Recycling Information Line at 4-1777.
Remember that the trash and recycling services are available to meet the needs of on-campus residents with the costs of collecting and processing paid from your board fees. The unauthorized dumping of trash generated off-campus is considered a theft of services, violates Tompkins County Local Laws, and will result in appropriate disciplinary action.
