Goal 1. Improve bathroom cleanliness
- Educate students about housekeeping services
- Advocate for expansion of weekend cleaning services
- Advocate for renovation of quad and tower bathrooms, particularly bathroom ventilation systems
- Investigate installation of automatic bathroom deodorizers
Goal 2. Improve student satisfaction with heat regulation
- Schedule walkthroughs of buildings to take note of temperature and better monitor heat
- Continue to advocate with facilities for the upgrading of the residential housing heating system
- Work with Facilities to educate residents as to how the residential heating system works best
- Encourage Facilities to install heat sensors in all buildings, possibly in all rooms
- Investigate heat loss occurring in all residence hall entrances
Goal 3. Improve ADA accessibility in residence halls
- Evaluate current ADA accessibility of all buildings and determine what enhancements to these areas can be made (automatic door openers, proper door handles, entrance ramps, etc.)
- Continue to increase the number of rooms on campus that meet ADA requirements
- Work with Academic Support Services to identify projects that should be occurring in the residence halls in order to meet ADA needs and requirements
- Advocate for Facilities to add more ramps on campus
Goal 4. Increase level of security for our residence halls
- Implement policy and upgrade facilities to meet expectation of locking the residence halls 24 hours a day, 7 days a week using current key system by the Fall of 2007
- Implement policy and upgrade facilities as needed to successfully install Identification Access on all the exterior doors of the Residence Halls and interior doors deemed necessary
- Implement policy and upgrade facilities as needed to successfully install Identification Access on all interior doors in the Residence Halls
- Evaluate and assess student and staff opinions about ID Access on Exterior doors; Repeat this process at time when ID Access is installed on interior doors
Goal 5. Improve relationship between Residential Life Staff and Facilities Services and Facilities Maintenance Staff
- Area Coordinators establish 2 meetings a semester between Area Coordinators, Residence Directors and Facilities Services staff supervisors for the area
- Residence Directors establish 1 meeting a semester during RA training between their RA staff and the Facilities Services staff working in the residence halls they supervise
- Area Coordinators establish 1 meeting a semester between Facilities Maintenance person who works in their area for the Area Coordinator and the Residence Director staff of the area.
Goal 6. Research budget to get wireless access in all residence halls
- Determine overall cost of implementing wireless in the residence hall
- Determine location that wireless will be installed (student rooms or just in lounges and common areas)
- Determine roll out of wireless in campus residence halls
Goal 7. Install improved lighting in residence hall rooms
- Budget for new room lighting in East and West Tower for the summer of 2008
- Budget for new room lighting in Terraces 1-6 for the summer of 2009
- Budget for new room lighting in Terraces 7-12
- Each year evaluate the condition of the Hallway/Common Area lighting in the building and assess ability and cost to upgrade lighting and move potentially to motion sensor lights
Goal 8. Create facility renovation/construction plan
- Review Facilities Audit to be delivered by the firm Sightlines
- Work jointly with Office of Facilities, based on information from Facilities Audit, to advocate for the necessary budgets to renovate areas of needed determined by Sightlines audit
- Review and compare current renovation cycle with Sightlines Facilities Audit
- Begin to set yearly budget requests for Residential Life Operations Account based on needs identified by Sightlines Audit.
