Goal 1. Implement strategies to connect residential students to their community
  • Use focus groups to gather data on disconnect between students saying they need more connection in residence halls, but not more interaction or programs from RAs
  • Review Resident Assistant training and commit to a focus on community development
  • Review role of Resident Assistant in relation to community building and development
  • Focus on international students' connections to community
  • Focus on returning students' connections to community
  • Close Sunday opening check-in from 5:00-7:00 p.m. so all halls can hold floor meetings with all RAs
Goal 2. Assess programming/community development expectations for non-specialty housing
  • Collaborate with Residence Hall Association on community expectations and programming
  • Look at roommate agreement form/process and make more useful for students
Goal 3. Develop department marketing to reflect focuses, including community focus and diversity
  • Explore use of tagline or other symbols in marketing
  • Promote marketing through various methods – stationary, website, etc
  • Assess effectiveness of marketing
  • Work to implement the marketing in the residential learning communities
Goal 4. Intentionally work to bring learning outcomes into halls
  • Communicate learning outcomes to students in meetings, judicial meetings, orientation, etc
  • Reflect learning outcomes in all written/on-line materials
  • Incorporate the learning outcomes into housing agreements and review in first floor meeting
  • Committees will incorporate the learning outcomes into their work
  • Put learning outcomes in all professional staff offices
  • Incorporate information about the learning outcomes into Resident Assistant training
  • Incorporate the learning outcomes into departmental goal setting processes
Goal 5. Incorporate assessment plan into departmental operating procedures
  • Train staff regularly on their roles in tracking data
  • Utilize the assessment plan in department goal setting processes
  • Create mechanisms for on-going tracking of various learning outcomes
Goal 6. Work to enforce quiet hours in buildings
  • Create clear study spaces in all buildings
  • Teach students confrontation skills so that they can approach each other effectively over quiet hours and other issues
  • Train Resident Assistants to enforce quiet hours in terms of community expectations/development
  • Create building signage/magnets with quiet hours information
