General Protocols:

  1. Above all, remain calm.
  2. Never place an emergency caller on hold.
  3. Always jot down an emergency caller's name, phone number, and location (ascertain from the LCD display on the phone or by questioning the caller).
  4. For any life-threatening emergency, do not hesitate! Immediately dial 911. If the emergency circumstance does not allow you to make the call, direct another staff member to do so.
  5. Once an Emergency Operator has been apprised of the nature of the emergency, precisely follow their instructions.
  6. Whenever a victim needs emergency transportation, the Health Center or the Office of Public Safety will dispatch the nearest patrol unit or an ambulance as the situation warrants. Never provide or arrange for emergency transportation other than through the Office of Public Safety or the Health Center.
  7. Whenever a patrol unit or ambulance is responding, a staff member should stand by at a designated location in order to meet the responders and escort them to the emergency scene.
  8. Always ask that non-involved persons immediately leave the emergency scene so as not to impede emergency responders or complicate the situation.
  9. For every emergency, all staff member(s) who dealt closely with the situation should submit a detailed Incident Report as soon as possible once the emergency has been resolved.
