RESIDENTIAL LIFE GUIDE
post-inspection compliance

Once the check has been completed, the RAs will fill out the appropriate portion of the Health & Safety Inspection form which documents the results of the inspection. At this point, the RAs will explain to the resident(s) what violations, if any, were found and what the residents must do to come into compliance.

The RA will deliver the Health & Safety inspection form to the appropriate Residence Director who will E-mail the residents as to any violations and the date by which the room needs to come into compliance. An informational brochure which explains the Health and Safety process will also be left for each student to read. For a copy, click on the appropriate link:

During the September check, there will be no fines or judicial sanctions for minor violations unless the student(s) fail(s) to come into compliance by the specified date or if the student(s) is/are involved in subsequent violations.

After the deadline given for compliance, the room will be re-checked using the same procedure. Individuals found to be non-compliant with Health and Safety policies, as well as anyone in violation of any other of the Residential Life Rules and Regulations, will be referred judicially and subject to a fine as detailed under Violations.

Every residence hall room is checked at Thanksgiving and Spring breaks by Residential Life staff. Environmental Health and Safety staff conducts inspections over Winter break. Apartments will again be checked at either Thanksgiving or Spring Break. The Office of Fire Prevention and Control inspects all facilities' common areas for fire code violations. Ithaca College works with OFPC to make changes as identified during the inspections.
