RESIDENTIAL LIFE GUIDE
health & safety violations

September checks are designed to be educational in nature. If you are found with Health & Safety violations and come into compliance by the specified date, you will not be fined or referred judicially or receive a judicial fine.

If a major violation is found during the September inspection, each resident of the room or apartment will at minimum receive an automatic $50.00 fine and 1 semester of probation.

Judicial fines will remain static, while judicial consequences will escalate with any subsequent violations. The judicial consequences are dependent on the severity of the incident and a student's prior judicial history.

Every residence hall room is checked at Thanksgiving and Spring breaks by Residential Life staff. Environmental Health and Safety staff conducts inspections over Winter break. Apartments will again be checked at either Thanksgiving or Spring Break. The Office of Fire Prevention and Control inspects all facilities' common areas for fire code violations. Ithaca College works with OFPC to make changes as identified during the inspections.
