RESIDENTIAL LIFE GUIDE
illegal appliances

The following appliances are prohibited in all residential rooms and apartments:
  • air conditioners¹
  • broilers²
  • candles
  • electric fry pans
  • extension cords
  • gas grills
  • griddles²
  • halogen lamps
  • heating coils
  • hot plates
  • hot pots
  • incense
  • full-sized refrigerators
  • microwave ovens³
  • lava lamps
  • space heaters
  • toaster ovens²
  • water beds
  • water coolers (with refrigeration or heating elements)

 


¹ Air conditioners, other than the built-in units provided as standard furnishing within the Circle Apartments and Emerson Hall, are prohibited in Residence Halls.
² Apartment residents only are permitted to possess and use the following electrical appliances in their kitchens for cooking: blenders, broilers, coffeemakers, griddles, popcorn poppers, toaster ovens, and toasters. If a student wishes to bring an appliance not specifically listed as prohibited or allowed, it must be Underwriters' Laboratory-approved, cannot draw more than 9.5 amps of electricity, and the Office of Residential Life must be notified for prior approval.
³ A Microfridge is the only approved microwave allowed in a residential room other than in Apartment kitchens.
