RESIDENTIAL LIFE GUIDE
moving off-campus

All students must be approved by the Office of Residential Life before they can move off campus. For more information, please see our Residency Policy. Off-campus approval is granted by application which is generally available only during a limited period of the Spring semester for off-campus status beginning the subsequent academic year. There is no guarantee that a student applicant will be granted off-campus approval.

Additionally, all student applicants must successfully complete "Putting the Pieces Together: Being a Responsible Member of the Ithaca Community" prior to their applicatiion being considered. All student applicants who are not 21 years of age at the time of application must also have a parent or legal guardian provide written consent for their student to live off-campus to the Office of Residential Life prior to an application being considered.

The Office of Residential Life maintains a number of Off-campus Listings to help students find suitable off-campus housing near the College but does not approve, inspect, recommend, or assume responsibility for those facilities. For additional information about off-campus living, please consult our Off Campus Housing Section.

SPECIAL NOTE FOR STUDENTS WHO HAVE CURRENT OFF-CAMPUS OR COMMUTER STATUS: You may make a written request to the Office of Residential Life to move back onto campus. However, there is no guarantee that we will be able to honor the request. If the request is granted, housing assignment preference will be given to current on-campus students, students returning from study abroad and campus centers in LA, London & Washington, and to new students. Students who are approved to move back on campus relinquish their off-campus status and must reapply for any future approval.

SPECIAL NOTICE: The Office of Residential Life reserves the right to suspend these processes as demand for campus housing dictates.

All room changes and sublets made without prior approval of the Office of Residential Life are subject to judicial action. Similarly, moving into a vacancy without permission from the Office of Residential Life can result in disciplinary action. It is vitally important for your safety and well-being that Ithaca College's records accurately reflect where you reside on campus.

Students who move (or are directly reassigned) from a traditional room to a Circle Apartment, Garden Apartment, or Quad Apartment will need to contact the Bursar's office if they intend to continue their current meal plan. Students who move (or are directly reassigned) from a Circle Apartment, Garden Apartment, or Quad Apartment to a traditional room are automatically assigned to a standard meal plan which will be billed to their student account.

Moving from one bedroom to another within an Circle apartment without approval of the Office of Residential Life is considered an unauthorized room change and subject to judicial action.
