RESIDENTIAL LIFE GUIDE
refrigerators/microfridges

Ithaca College students often find it more convenient to rent a refrigerator or microfridge from the Refrigerator Leasing Company that services Ithaca College. It is one way to be certain that the appliance meets Ithaca College's size and electrical standards.

If you choose to bring a microfridge, be advised that you must show documentation that it meets the specific power, size, and electrical operating specifications set forward by the Department of Environmental Health and Safety.

One refrigerator or microfidge is allowed per room! Any damage to the residence hall or its furnishings resulting from a refrigerator or microfridge will be billed to the student(s) responsible for the appliance.

Refrigerators and microfridges ...

  • must be adequate ventilated and may not be placed in closets.
  • must be UL-approved, 5.0 cu. ft. or less in size, and with a maximum amperage at "start-up" of 3.2 amps and normal operating amperage of 1.7 amps or less.
  • that use sulfur dioxide, ammonia, or propane are prohibited for safety reasons.
  • must be plugged directly into a wall socket or into a surge protected power strip. (Do not use extension cords or non-surge-protected outlet strips.)
