RESIDENTIAL LIFE GUIDE
room painting guidelines
|
- The student or students wishing to paint their room must seek prior approval to paint by completing a paint authorization form (available in the Office of Residential Life).
- In order to avoid a charge for repainting, the student or students must paint the room, apartment, or suite in a color or colors selected from the approved color swatches (available in the Office of Residential Life).
- Only latex paint may be used. Wallpaper, fabric, contact paper, and paneling are not acceptable wall coverings.
- All surfaces and floors should be covered during painting as damage to college property that results will be charged to the student's account.
- All walls can be painted in one approved color, or three walls may be painted white with the fourth wall painted an approved accent color.
- The inside of closets must be painted the same color as the dominant color in the room.
- Ceilings are not to be painted.
- Metal and wood surfaces in the room, apartment, or suite (e.g., radiators, furniture, molding) may not be painted. Students may request to have radiators painted by the College.
- The student or students must provide this own paint and equipment, and are responsible for all expenses incurred.
- Rooms, apartments, and suites may be painted only once during the academic year.
- After a room, apartment, or suite is painted, it will be inspected by a residential life staff member. If the staff member determines that the room, apartment, or suite was painted in violation of any of the above criteria or was painted in a sloppy manner, the room, apartment, or suite may be repainted at the end of the academic year (or sooner if it is vacated) at the expense of the students who were living there.
The opportunity for our students to paint their room is to provide flexibility in designing a "Home away from Home". This opportunity is in no way meant to substitute for Ithaca College's routine painting schedules.
Residents of the Circle Apartments may not paint their apartments. Student in other areas may request to paint his or her room, apartment, or suite by the above guidelines.
Common areas such as bathrooms, hallways, lounges, and stairwells may be painted or personalized only with the approval of the Residence Director, Area Coordinator, and Assistant Director for Operations. See your Residence Director for specific guidelines and application procedures.
