RESIDENTIAL LIFE GUIDE
squatting rooms & apartments

Current students may have the option to select (squat) their current room or apartment during the Fall housing selection process (held during the prior Spring semester). Students can verify their ability to squat by loggin into HomerConnect.

Residents of a room or apartment designated for special use during the next academic year are considered to be displaced (ineligible to squat). This includes all residents of the First Year Residence Hall Program, Terraces Suites, Quad Apartments, Emerson triples, and all other special use rooms. Displaced students will need to participate in the on-line housing selection process during the appropriate selection time.

Students eligible to squat a ...

  • traditional single, double and triple rooms, may do so individually or with their current roommate(s). Current residents electing to squat with a current student who is not a current roommate may do so only if the room has not been previously squatted by a current resident selecting the same option.
  • Circle or Garden apartment, may if all apartment spaces are filled when this option is selected and if at least half of the apartment spaces are filled by current residents (e.g. 5-person apartment requires at least 3 current residents remain).

SPECIAL NOTE: All students eligible for housing selection during the squatting process must be current on-campus students (not incoming or transfer students, or students with current off-campus status).

SPECIAL NOTICE: The Office of Residential Life reserves the right to suspend these processes as demand for campus housing dictates.

All room changes and sublets made without prior approval of the Office of Residential Life are subject to judicial action. Similarly, moving into a vacancy without permission from the Office of Residential Life can result in disciplinary action. It is vitally important for your safety and well-being that Ithaca College's records accurately reflect where you reside on campus.

Students who move (or are directly reassigned) from a traditional room to a Circle Apartment, Garden Apartment, or Quad Apartment will need to contact the Bursar's office if they intend to continue their current meal plan. Students who move (or are directly reassigned) from a Circle Apartment, Garden Apartment, or Quad Apartment to a traditional room are automatically assigned to a standard meal plan which will be billed to their student account.
