RESIDENTIAL LIFE GUIDE
vacancy form

Vacancies occur in rooms, apartments, or suites for many different reasons and often without prior notice. A student's roommates and apartmentmates may be unaware of the vacancy created until after it must be filled. For this reason, students are strongly urged to submit a Vacancy form for every Vacancy process (click here for Vacancy form).

If a vacancy occurs in a double or triple room, apartment, or suite while classes are in session, the remaining residents have five business days to submit a completed Vacancy form. Vacancy options are the following:

  1. All of the remaining residents request the vacancy be filled by the on-campus student listed on the form (Apartment residents may also fill an apartment vacancy with an off-campus student who is approved by the Office of Residential Life).
  2. All or some residents indicate their interest to buy out the vacancy. When offered, this option is available only in the spring semester and the request is not guaranteed to be honored (click here for Buyout form).
  3. All of the remaining residents request that the Office of Residential Life fill the vacancy.

If no Vacancy Form is on file when a vacancy is to be filled, the Office of Residential Life will assign another current student to the vacancy. In certain instances, the Office of Residential Life will force the consolidation of apartment residents.

SPECIAL NOTICE: The Office of Residential Life reserves the right to suspend these processes as demand for campus housing dictates.

All room changes and sublets made without prior approval of the Office of Residential Life are subject to judicial action. Similarly, moving into a vacancy without permission from the Office of Residential Life can result in disciplinary action. It is vitally important for your safety and well-being that Ithaca College's records accurately reflect where you reside on campus.

Students who move (or are directly reassigned) from a traditional room to a Circle Apartment, Garden Apartment, or Quad Apartment will need to contact the Bursar's office if they intend to continue their current meal plan. Students who move (or are directly reassigned) from a Circle Apartment, Garden Apartment, or Quad Apartment to a traditional room are automatically assigned to a standard meal plan which will be billed to their student account.

Moving from one bedroom to another within an Circle apartment without approval of the Office of Residential Life is considered an unauthorized room change and subject to judicial action.
