Welcome to Quartier français, the French language and culture learning community! Quartier français is a new offering for the 2009-2010 academic year. The community is located on the first floor of Terrace 11, and shares the floor with the Stockwerk Deutsch Learning Community. For 2010-11, Quartier français will move to the second floor of Terrace 07, along with Stockwerk Deutsch.
Program Goals
- Lead students to appreciable improvement and greater competence in the four basic language skills (listening, speaking, reading, and writing).
- Assist students in contextualizing the significance of French language and culture in the larger world.
- Allow students to engage directly with the disparate cultures that make up the French-speaking work, leading to a deeper understanding of these cultures.
Program Requirements
- Sign the specialty housing agreement.
- Attend at least 3 educational programs planned or approved by the Quartier français RA.
- Participate in language immersion hours.
Potential Activities
- Carrefour francophone: French conversation groups
- ICinéma: French language film series
- Fêtes: cultural celebrations
- À Table: cooking nights
