Hey Hey L.A.! About “Hey Hey L.A.!”

Hey Hey L.A.!

My spring 2009 semester in Los Angeles...just sending some West Coast lovin' back to Ithaca!

I am having a bit of a dilemma.

So many awesome things have happened since I arrived in Los Angeles, but I haven’t gotten the chance to blog about any of them until now. The way I look at it, this leaves me with several choices:

  1. Write about EVERYTHING. Seeing as I don’t have the attention span to sit in one place for the amount of time it would take me to cover it all, this doesn’t seem like the best decision. Sure, I can get out a good paragraph or two, but after that my mind starts wandering and I begin asking myself questions like, Are pickles and cucumbers essentially the same thing, or are they two different plants? What would a pickle plant look like anyway?
  2. Write NOTHING. Probably not the most popular choice, as you would feel a bit cheated. After all, who wouldn’t want to hear all of the mundane details of my day-to-day existence?? Nothing is clearly not an option.
  3. FLASHBACKS. That’s right, like in the movies. This seems like the best choice to me, because it means that I can better explain what I’m up to now by telling you how I got here. In the words of Dane Cook, I’m going to “Tarantino it”… first I will tell you the ending, and then we will back up so that I can show you what happened.

So assuming we’ve agreed on option three, I should start by telling you where I am now: I’m a junior Integrated Marketing Communications major and advertising fanatic studying in Ithaca College’s Roy H. Park School of Communications. Last spring, I spent the semester living and working in London, where my time was split between taking classes and interning at a creative services agency right in the heart of the city. This semester, I am spending some time in Los Angeles through the Park School’s LA Program. I am taking two classes (Government & Media and Writing for PR), and I am working at a big ad agency named TBWA\Chiat\Day, where I am an Account Management Intern on the Pepsi account.

So. Now that we have that out of the way, let’s figure out what has happened.

Time to rewind!
