Student Profile: Meagan McGinnes '14
Meagan McGinnes '14 was asked to talk about her experience as a Journalism major.
"The world of media is changing, and the Park school realizes it would be providing its students a disservice by only teaching them one platform in which to be the true storytellers they are. I am taught all mediums of journalism including newspaper, documentary, broadcast, literary/narrative and multimedia. In the classroom, I am given the tools I need to succeed including researching, interviewing, writing and broadcasting to work independently through the Park Center for Independent Media or with other prominent organizations. I receive personal attention and support from our award winning staff. And the best part? It starts as early as freshman year."
"Outside the classroom, I am given the opportunity to apply these tools within IC media organizations. My student media organizations within the Park school ranges from ICTV to The Ithacan to WICB to co-curricular organizations, like the Society of Professional Journalists, to network at national levels and to advance professional development. Outside the college, faculty and internship coordinators help to set students up with local and national organizations to get real world experience and make personal connections with other professional journalists."
"(Ithaca) has fueled my passion for journalism and prepared me to jump into the world of media without hesitation and fear, but rather with curiosity and passion."
