Rachele Ceccorulli ’07 says, “Adios Estados Unidos, Hello Spain!”

When Rachele Ceccorulli studied in Sevilla during her junior year in the Park school, she fell in love with Spain’s old world charm, and promised herself that she would return.  In October she delivered on the promise, landing a position as a North American language and culture assistant in La Línea de la Concepción, on a grant from the Ministry of Education of Spain.

La Línea is a small city of about 60,000 people; it lies on the eastern isthmus of the Bay of Gibraltar, in the shadow of the famous Rock. Ceccorulli works in the CEIP Gibraltar elementary school providing teaching assistance in preschool through fourth grade English and science classes.  Because her school has been designated a bilingual school, there are not only the usual English classes, but also efforts to integrate English into all other subjects as well.

"Everyone at my school has been so nice, offering to help me with anything I need," says Ceccorulli. "The La Línea city centre is pretty and lively with people and shops, and the proximity to Gibraltar can't be ignored.  English bars and pockets of English-speaking people are scattered around.  The Rock of Gibraltar is almost always visible, and I can actually walk into the Gibraltar British territory in about 10 minutes."

She is also taking a Spanish for foreigners course twice a week at a language school where her classmates include students from Italy, France, Greece, Bulgaria, Russia, and Brazil.  Her plans also involve giving private English lessons and of course -- travel!

Rachele Ceccorulli graduated in May 2007 with a degree in communication management and design.
