"So who needs the SI Swimsuit Calendar? We've got the Gentlemen of CMD!" says Amanda Butts '08, president of the communication management and design student association (CMDSA). Response to this unique fundraiser has been "enthusiastic," says Butts, and advanced sales are going well.
The Gentlemen of CMD calendar features 12 young men in the CMD major, each posing in a context that reflects their interests or personalities. Nic Barajas ’08, online editor of the Ithacan, sits atop stacks of the newspaper. Josh Keniston '08, student representative on the IC Board of Trustees, lounges in the boardroom. And "Packy" Lunn, musician and December ’07 grad, enjoys raiding his bank account at the Egbert ATM.
"Women typically outnumber men in communication programs," states A.J. Mizes '09, CMDSA board member and calendar-guy. "Recently CMD has enjoyed an upturn in male enrollment, and we thought it would be a great way to celebrate that while also promoting the program further. It is not only a great way to make some money for the student organization but also a way to showcase the guys that take part in our great program!"
The CMDSA membership approached the project professionally, with a photographer and scheduled photo shoots. "We had many, many different poses and pictures of each guy to choose from," says Mizes, "and I think that was the most fun. The guys were able to be themselves and showcase either their GQ side, creative side, or just plain goofy side. All in all, it was a really enjoyable process and if this fundraiser does well it might be something that turns into a tradition for CMD majors."
The calendar runs March 2008-February 2009, is priced at $8.00, and can be purchased by contacting Butts, Mizes, or any other CMDSA member. Along with Barajas, Keniston, Lunn, and Mizes, the calendar features Cornell Woodson '09, Jason Lysenko '08, Jason Schwarz '08, Andrew Hiltz '08, Ara Eckel '09, Ryan Capra '08, Brian Hall '09, and Chris Carman '09.
