Five IMC Majors Receive the Peggy R. Williams Award for Academic and Community Leadership
On March 18, five Integrated Marketing Communications majors receive the Peggy R. Williams Award for Academic and Community Leadership for 2007-2008 academic year. Their achievements reflect the importance of community service and leadership in the Integrated Marketing Communications degree program, which is part of Ithaca College’s Department of Strategic Communication in the Roy H. Park School of Communications.
This year’s IMC recipients are seniors Sara Cleary, Alyssa Gardina, and Mandy Kessler; and juniors Caitlin Castle and Jordan Trigilio. They all made substantial contributions to be awarded this distinguished honor.
Here are a few examples of the contributions the IMC students made to the community. Sara Cleary has demonstrated leadership and service for her work with the Residence Hall Association and Residential Life over the past four years, where she has been dedicated to helping to improve the quality of life for residents on the IC campus. Over the past three and a half years, Alyssa Gardina has been an assistant archivist and intern at the History Center in Tompkins County. As co-coordinator of a group project with the Park Scholars at The History Center, Alyssa organized a benefit auction that raised over $5,000 for the organization. Currently, she is organizing a group to produce pod casts for the Center's collections.
Serving as co-president of the IC's chapter of STAND (A Student Anti-Genocide Coalition), Mandy Kessler has volunteered for the United Way of Tompkins County, the Tompkins County Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, and the History Center in Tompkins County. Previously, Mandy volunteered for the American Red Cross and the Habitat for Humanity Gulf Coast Recovery Project.
Caitlin Castle, who is studying in Spain this semester, volunteered with the Longview Literary Circle and the Ithaca City School District, where she wrote articles for the newspaper and the Ithaca Jounal. She also was co-president of the Ithaca College Care-full Crafters Club and publicity director for Ithaca College Television (ICTV).
Chair and Professor Steve Seidman said, "The Strategic Communication faculty is extremely proud of the accomplishments of five IMC majors, who will receive this award on March 18! Their achievements reflect the importance of community service and leadership in the IMC program. Congratulations to Caitlin, Sara, Alyssa, Mandy, and Jordan!"
Ithaca College developed the Peggy R. Williams Award for Academic and Community Leadership to recognize students who excel in academic performance, perform service to the College community and nation, and represent an exemplary level of accomplishment. The most outstanding students representing the College are selected regardless of school or departmental affiliation. The names of students selected for the award are submitted to the national “Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges.”
