The communication management and design (CMD) program was well represented at the 18th annual  Educational Technology Day on March 27th.  Jessica Briskin ’09 and assistant professors Dennis Charsky and Mary Lou Kish showcased their e-learning collaboration, in an exhibit called, Using Online Tools to Facilitate Learning.  "It was really exciting to have people stop by and play with the web tools that I helped create," said Briskin.

Ed Tech Day is sponsored by Information Technology Services (ITS) at Ithaca College, and virtually takes over every nook and cranny of the Campus Center, with vendor demonstrations of new products, seminars highlighting new applications of technology, and a showcase of IC exhibits as well.  This year's vendors ran the gamut from Adobe to Verizon with Dell Inc. providing an Inspiron 1525 laptop that attendees could register to win.  Also featured were 40 seminars and several tours.

"This event draws a regional audience," said Kish. "I had a great chat with a teacher from the Syracuse City School District who was very interested in how we are using group facilitation tools housed on Web CT in a course simulation. She was impressed that the mock web site and company intranet we were displaying were both designed and executed by students in Dennis’ E-Learning course for the use of students in my Human Communication in Organizations course."

CMD students were also visible working Ed Tech Day in other roles.  Jason Soon ’08 and Rachel Pancoe ’09 work for ITS and helped expedite and troubleshoot when necessary.  Shannon Reilly ’10, who works with IC Conference and Events Services, was part of the event management team.  Sarah Brylinsky ’09 manned the Sustainability at IC table, answering questions and distributing literature. Jason Schwarz ’08 and Kameron Mohammed ’09 spent the morning broadcasting the event live for WICB radio.

CMD students were also highly encouraged to attend Ed Tech Day.  Tammy Shapiro, assistant professor in the CMD program, brought her classes to the Campus Center with an assignment to complete in relation to the required course, systems thinking and design.

One bonus for attending is the variety of freebies that vendors bring with them.  This year's hits included a combo keyboard brush/screen duster and a desktop cell phone holder.
