CMD’s Cornell Woodson & A.J. Mizes Elected to Top Spots on Campus for AY 2008-2009
Cornell Woodson ’09 led his Reconstruction party to victory in this year’s campus elections and he will be president of the Student Government Association (SGA) for the 2008-2009 academic year. Fellow CMDer A.J. Mizes ’09 was elected IC senior class president.
The SGA executive board will include film, photography and visual arts major Sharlene Nichols as vice president of academics; English/psychology major Miriam Feldman as vice president of business and finance; biochemistry major Dan Wald as vice president of campus affairs; and, integrated marketing communication major Luke Elmers as vice president of communications.
"Our goal is to open the channels of communication to allow much more conversation between the SGA and the student body," says Woodson. "Our hope is that we will empower students to become leaders and take proactive roles as integral members of the Ithaca College student body. We look forward to working with our peers and making SGA more student driven."
Mizes’ Team Re:New party triumphed with psychology major Christan Balch as vice president; integrated marketing communication major Chris Cherniss as treasurer; and, English major Amy Morse as secretary. According to Mizes,"What we really want to do for the Class of 2009 is to create 'Senior Experience.' Rather than a year where seniors simply go through the motions, our Executive Board is developing some exciting initiatives to bring inclusion into everything we do."
The senior class e-board plans some innovative strategies. "Whether that's actively polling seniors on
a regular basis to create events that appeal to the entire class, or empowering cabinet members to have
creative control over fundraising efforts, we're striving to cover it all," says Mizes. "Most of
all, however, we're about raising the benchmark in terms of event participation and monetary
fundraising to make sure that the Class of 2009 leaves a legacy for other classes to follow."
