2008 Strategic Communication Department Banquet, Showcase, and Awards

The first annual year-end celebration of the Strategic Communication Department was by all accounts, a fantastic success!  Replacing former program-centered events, the Strategic Communication  Banquet, Showcase, and Awards on May 1st  highlighted the accomplishments of both communication management and design, and integrated marketing communications, students. 

The party was planned and executed by students from the department student organizations—CMDSA, AAF, and PRSSA.  "It really was an all-around team effort," said Amanda Butts ’08, president of CMDSA. About 120 attendees feasted on a scrumptious buffet which included carved roast turkey with mashed potatoes and gravy, seafood newburg over rice, vegetable lasagna, spring greens with asparagus and fruit salad, all topped off with cheesecake and strawberries. 

Following dinner, a variety of awards and achievements were recognized.  Department chair, Steve Seidman announced the CMD awards, which included

Preceding the dinner, a showcase of student projects was available for viewing with attendees voting "best of" in a  variety of categories.  The winners were announced as

Most Creative Design:  Clue ad by Mallory Diamond—Advertising, Copywriting & Art Direction project
Best Collaborative Effort:  Boobies Bash fundraiser event by Pink Lady Promotions (Leanne Gabinelli, Amanda Bussett, Kellie Hoverter, & Vanessa Odenbach)—Management of Strategic Communication project
Best Use of Park Resources:  Proceedings, the 2008 RIT Undergraduate Research Conference, with papers presented at the conference by Caitlin Mancini, Vanessa Odenbach, Jason Soon, Julie Tausend, Michele Maciejewski
Best Use of Humor:  Monopoly ad by Caitlin Mancini—Advertising, Copywriting & Art Direction project
Most Original Topic:  Moda Verde—Proposal for a Sustainable Fashion Show by Jonna Dowling, Sarah LaRosa, Brian Cicero, Maggie Kates—Introduction to Strategic Communication project 

Following these awards, the CMD Faculty Awards were presented which recognize efforts in individual courses.
