"New
York-Based Crews Just Call It as They See It" about the NBC Highlight Factory, from
NYTimes.com.
Brendan O’Keefe, CMD ’10, finished his 2008 Olympics internship with the NBC Highlight Factory on August 24. He didn't get to go to Beijing, but totally enjoyed his assignment: he produced dynamic content that millions of people watched on www.nbcolympics.com.
O’Keefe worked in NBC’s Olympic Center in New York City which was temporarily housed on the set of Saturday Night Live. “NBC treated all interns with respect, and I enjoyed working for them,” he says.
“Briefly, my job was to edit raw footage from the Beijing games into video packages for the website. I edited packages for nearly every sport—from Michael Phelps’ races to table tennis tournaments. The videos were either simple encores—footage minus commercials—or highlight clips.”
Dozens of his videos were published, and the highlight of his internship experience was being told that his compilation video of Nastia Liukin’s gold medal gymnastic routines received 2.2 million hits on nbcolympics.com in less than 24 hours.
“The fact that millions of people watched a video I produced is simply mind boggling,” says O’Keefe, adding, “Digital media is converging with traditional media at an accelerated pace, and this internship put me at the forefront.”
