Alexandra (Ally) Litzman, CMD '09, loves working for IC After Dark because it has allowed her to grow with her major and apply the concepts learned in various CMD courses to the benefit of the Ithaca College community.

“I wanted to find an activity that integrated my daily curricula with the real world,” says Litzman. “In the fall of my sophomore year, I became involved in IC After Dark and there’s been no turning back since!”  This year, she is After Dark’s Executive Chair, charged with overseeing the organization’s success.

According to its mission, IC After Dark “provides free late night programs that improve the quality of student life through immersive, entertainment experiences, that involve Ithaca College students, student organizations, administration, alumni, faculty and staff.”

However, Litzman explains that working in After Dark has fulfilled a larger purpose for her. "Planning and managing events is an opportunity to utilize the skills I’ve learned in the classroom. I know that my courses would not mean as much to me if I had not joined the organization. The combination of IC After Dark and the CMD major is preparing me for life after graduation, which for many students is a very scary thought!”

Litzman spent the spring 2008 semester in the Park School’s Los Angeles program, where this combination of CMD skills and After Dark experience were put to the test in her internship with Paramount Vantage.  She was thrilled when her supervisor actually gave her more job responsibilities than the average intern because of her proven event coordination experience.  When the semester ended, she was asked to continue interning and remains in touch with company personnel.

In addition to IC After Dark, Litzman is a Co-Chair of Special Events for the Senior Class of 2009 and participates as a choreographer for First Year Cabaret, which is a division of First Year Programs.

IC After Dark resonates as a complementary campus activity to many CMD majors who are interested in careers in event planning and management. This year’s executive board includes CMD students Abby Brewer ’10, as Vice Executive Chair of Event Management, and Event Planners, Ryan Capra ’09, Hayley Henderson ‘10, Josh Rivera ’11, and Kelsey Walzer ’11.

Students who are interested in getting involved with IC After Dark should stop by the After Dark table at the Student Organization Fair on September 3 from 10:00 to 3:00 in Emerson Suites.
