IMC’s Peruta Finishes Ironman in Top Third
In a December 4th Ithacan article, “Road to the Ironman,” assistant sports editor Casey Musarra, reported on IMC assistant professor Adam Peruta’s triathlon quest. According to the article, Peruta has “biked, swum and run about 5,000 miles in eight months of training” for the event held during Thanksgiving Break in Tempe, Arizona.
Seeking a new challenge about two years ago, Peruta began competing in marathons. “I decided to take on something different, do something unexpected,” he explained. The Tempe race consisted of a 2.4-mile swim, a 112-mile bike ride, and a 26.2-mile run, which he completed in 11 hours and 57 minutes, finishing 832nd out of 2,300 participants.
About becoming an Ironman, Peruta comments, “A few people told me that you are an Ironman when you get to the start line. All the training, preparation, suffering and sacrificing you have done to get there makes you an Ironman. The race is just a celebration.”
Peruta teaches courses in Presentation Media and Visual Design, Brand Design, and Advertising Copywriting and Art Direction in the Department of Strategic Communication.
