IMC major and Legal Studies minor, Elise Stevens, ‘10, has been named president of Ithaca College’s Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) Chapter for academic year, 2009-2010.
Elise said, “I look forward to an exciting and successful year as the new president of our growing PRSSA Chapter on campus. I encourage students interested in learning more about the public relations field and considering career opportunities to join us.” Elise interned at J.B. Pelham Public Relations, an agency with arts and entertainment clients, based in London, England, when she attended the Ithaca College London Center. In Ithaca, she also served as a marketing intern for Project Look Sharp, a media literacy initiative of Ithaca College to provide materials, training and support for the effective integration of media literacy with critical thinking into classroom curricula at all education levels, and for the Finger Lakes Environmental Film Festival (FLEFF) at Ithaca College, which has become a major regional event in upstate New York and enjoys an international reputation as a cutting-edge, multi-arts program. In addition to Elise's involvement with PRSSA, she is a player on the Ithaca College Field Hockey team.
The PRSSA student board also includes Maggie Marsden, vice president; Lauren Strassman, secretary; Kayla Inanc, treasurer; Kristen Meyers, director of promotions; Danielle Jenkins and Lesley James, event co-chairs; and Jessie Yuhaniak, webmaster. Arhlene Flowers, IMC professor, serves as faculty advisor.
Rush Night will be held September 1 at 7 p.m. in Park 140 or students interested in membership can send an e-mail to esteven1@ithaca.edu. The IC Chapter of PRSSA plans to host a networking dinner in the fall and a fundraiser for Make A Swish for Make A Wish in the spring. Throughout the year, the Chapter will host guest speakers, internship nights, resume-building workshops, and a “Day in the Life of PR Executives” in Buffalo, Rochester or Syracuse.
