Four CMD Women Recognized with Prestigious Peggy R Williams Award for Academic and Community Leadership

Four of the 49 recipients of the 2007 Peggy R Williams Award for Academic and Community Leadership are CMD students.  Kristen Leising '07, Nicole Spitalieri '07, Amanda Butts '08, and Megan Baurer '08 are being recognized for their outstanding performance in both academic and non-academic endeavors at Ithaca College.

"This award is a true honor," said Kristen, "especially because it is named after the Ithaca College President, Peggy Williams, who is committed to service and leadership." Kristen's leadership includes: Lambda Pi Eta President, Student Leadership Consultant, and the CMD Student Association Secretary.  After graduation, Kristen hopes to pursue a career in non-profit management.

"Being a part of the Ithaca College community has enriched my life in so many ways that it is a privilege to do as much as I can to give back to it. Receiving this award is truly an honor," was Nicole's reaction.  She has served as Senior Class Secretary and as SGA Senior Senator with positions on the Communications Committee, Off Campus Relations Committee, and Chair of the School Spirit Committee.  Nicole hopes to pursue a career in the online media/advertising industry after graduation, and eventually getting an MBA to become a business management consultant in the future.

According to Amanda, "The fact that Ithaca College recognizes students who give up their time to work with student groups and community organizations speaks volumes about the campus community."  Amanda has enjoyed her work with IC After Dark, Lambda Pi Eta, and the American Red Cross at Ithaca College. She also has been an Orientation Leader and attended both Alternative Spring Break and Habitat for Humanity Winter Break. In the future, she is thinking about joining Teach for America.

"Upon hearing that I had received the Award, I felt privileged and honored, especially because there are so many outstanding students and leaders at IC," commented Megan. She is an officer of the Peer Volunteer Corps (PVC) and participated in PVC's Alternative Spring Break in Washington D.C. to work on community service projects dedicated to homelessness, poverty, and hunger.  Among many other activities, Megan also participates in IC Unbound, a student-run dance company, as a dancer and choreographer.  Though still unsure of her future goals, she anticipates working in a non-profit or health-based organization doing event planning.
