Leigh Hurst '92, Corporate Communication Alumna, Creates feelyourboobies.com

Telling young women about the importance of self-breast examination "doesn't quite have the same punch as saying, feel your boobies," declares Leigh Hurst, '92. Leigh was diagnosed with breast cancer when she was only 33.  She founded Feel Your Boobies (FYB) to raise awareness among women under 40 since mammogram is currently only targeted to women 40 and older.  Hurst believes she is living proof that self-breast exams (feeling your boobies) is a primary way to ensure early detection for the younger crowd.

The FYB organization evolved from a T-shirt Leigh designed for her friends while she was undergoing cancer treatment.  The light-hearted FYB message turned into a communication campaign with the goal of creating products that get the FYB logo and educational message out into the world. Leigh hopes to "not only get people to chuckle, but also get them talking about something they don't currently discuss, especially in the pre-mammogram age group."

FYB seeks donations to support its educational initiatives and Leigh herself travels on the Boobies College Tour, speaking to college audiences, and spreading the boobies message. Visit www.feelyourboobies.com for more information—and a smile!
