Janet Williams '05 becomes Fulbright Scholar in Spain

Janet Williams '05 has been awarded a Fulbright grant to teach, study, and work in Spain for the 2005-2006 academic year. Janet will teach English as a foreign language at a Spanish public school, and work at a Women's Center helping with issues and concerns that face women in contemporary Spanish society. Janet has deferred by one year her participation in the Teach for America program to take advantage of the Fulbright Scholarship.

According to Janet, "I became interested in applying for a Fulbright when I saw a newspaper article about a student who was going to Spain on a Fulbright scholarship. I had just returned from a semester in Spain and I was interested in finding a way to spend more time working and studying in the country."

While at Ithaca College, Janet majored in CMD and minored in Spanish and Health Communications. The spring semester of her junior year she studied in Seville, Spain. In addition to her coursework, she was involved in CMDSA, the student organization, where she helped to plan programming and social events for CMD majors and minors.  Her senior year she was the vice president of communications for the Student Government Association where she was responsible for all of the public relations and advertising for the organization.
