Crisis communication paper presentation at the James J. Whalen Symposium

Dr. Cory Young's Crisis Management class from Fall 2006 presented their paper, "S.O.S. via SMS:  Text Messaging as a Communication Strategy in Hurricane Crises" at the James J. Whalen Academic Symposium in April 2007. A.J. Mizes, Eddie Lemonier, Basak Ozler, and Kellie Hoverter represented the class for the presentation, accompanied by Dr. Young.  The paper was a collaborative effort of the entire class, in response to a call for papers from the Southern Journal of Communication for its special issue on communication practices surrounding hurricane crises.

The paper was also chosen for presentation at the first annual Tau Theta chapter of Lambda Pi Eta mock convention in the Roy H. Park School of Communications in May where it was honored as "Best Paper."
