Gossa Tsegaye, assistant professor in the Department of Television-Radio, will talk about his one-hour documentary, "Porch Fest: Celebrating the spirit of a community through Music" on Thursday, November 3 at 12:05 p.m. in the Park Hall Auditorium. His project was a one-day shoot on a shoe-string budget.
Using Park School Students as assistants (Stacey Lawrence, Sarah Furie, Victoria Grace, Matt Walker, Ben Ratner, Shawn Steiner, Emily Junge, and Jackie Green), Tsegaye filmed the local music festival in which bands use downtown porches instead of traditional stages.
Tsegaye will also discuss scouting locations, crew selection and editing.
Two short films by John Scott, associate professor in the Department of Television-Radio, have been selected to be screened at the Coolidge Shorts for the month of September at the Coolidge Corner Theatre in Brookline, MA.
Both films, One Art and Sandpiper, are adaptations from Elizabeth Bishop’s Poems. Cinema, Photography, and Media Arts Assistant Professor Jason Harrington created animation for both projects.
Sandpiper and One Art have also been selected to screen at the Co-Kisser Poetry Film Festival in Minneapolis on October 8, 2011. One Art is currently part of an art gallery exhibition at The ViewPoint Gallery in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
An article by Nancy C. Cornwell was recently published in Media Arts & Law Review, the University of Melbourne Centre for Media and Communications Law's international law journal.
Cornwell’s article was titled, “Free Speech, Media Access and the Limitations of the American Liberal Tradition of Free Expression.“ She is a professor and chair of the Department of Television-Radio.
Death by Doorknob. Come see the unique films inspired by The Park School tradition. The annual Golden Doorknob Screening and Awards Presentation is set for Friday, April 29 at 7 p.m. in the Park Auditorium. First place film wins $2,000.
As part of a panel that explored ways in which to use new technologies to enhance student learning, Prof. Cornwell spoke about the importance of using technology intentionally in ones teaching with a keen eye towards its role in reaching clearly defined student learning outcomes. She also provided examples of how the technology can advance learning and enrich the educational experience in important ways.
