Democracy Now! co-host Juan Gonzalez to Speak

JUAN GONALEZ; author, journalist, and Democracy Now! co-host; will speak. His lecture will explore the role of racial divisions and segregation in the history of U.S. media and how racism in mainstream media often prompted the birth of independent media outlets and movements that challenged official narratives. That is the topic of his latest book (coauthored with Joseph Torres): “News for All the People – The Epic Story of Race and American Media.” He is an award-winning investigative journalist and columnist for the New York Daily News, and former president of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists.

A hands-on interdisciplinary scoring and composition session with Dick DeBenedicitis '58, an American composer noted for creating the scores of many popular television shows such as Perry Mason, Matlock, Hawaii Five-O and Columbo.

Info Session for Documentary Photography (Spring 2013)

Park School majors interested in enrolling in CNPH 30403 Documentary Photography for Spring 2013 should attend an info meeting.

This course will serve as the Park Award for Photo Activism, a joint program of Ithaca College, the Community Arts Partnership of Tompkins County, and the Park Foundation, and is designed to serve as a link between Ithaca College students and the greater Ithaca community.

Taught by Professor Janice Levy, this course will also feature additional workshops and lecture presentations by National Geographic photographer Lynn Johnson.

Local Sound Recording Workshops

Two location sound recording workshops will be offered Oct. 13-14 with production sound mixer Jeff Pullman. Pullman has worked on many films and TV series including Damages, In Treatment, Boardwalk Empire, and Monster’s Ball.

The day-long workshop will run from 10 a.m.-5:00 p.m. in Park 168 on both Oct. 13 and Oct. 14. Students may choose which day to participate.

Actor Denzil Smith to Discuss Career, Role in "Best Exotic Marigold Hotel"

Denzil Smith is an actor in Bollywood/ English language cinemas and has had roles in more than 19 films. His latest film,"Best Exotic Marigold Hotel", was filmed in Mumbai alongside Judy Dench.

Join him at noon on October 16 in the Park Auditorium for a Q&A on his career, a discussion of working in Mumbai and the film industry.
