AP's
ENPS Replaces NewsCenter
AP's
Electronic News Production System ENPS was installed August
2004 just prior to the start of school, replacing AP NewsCenter
for both the TV and the radio organizations. It is a flexible
and expandable system, found in more than 500 newsrooms
worldwide. Pete Busa has become our resident expert. NewsWatch
heavily relies on the software to produce its newscasts,
but any program requiring the use of scripts and teleprompting
also uses it. The teleprompter computers are new, too.
Newswatch
16 wins First Place in College Emmy awards
It's a first for Newswatch, and a first for Ithaca College.
An ICTV production received first place honors at the
Academy of Television Arts & Sciences 25th anniversary
College Emmy Awards, March 28 in Hollywood. The competition,
which honors student producers, awarded Fall 2003 news
director John Cook and news producer Michael Geller $2000
in cash, $2000 in Kodak film product and most of the expenses
to attend the awards gala. The November 20 newscast was
entered by Eloise Greene. The newscast was screened in
the Academy's theater the following evening, along with
the first place winners in the seven other categories.
This was the first year the Academy had a newscast category.
Newswatch
16 Wins Associated Press Award
June 22, 2003 - NewsWatch 16 made ICTV history, as it
became the first college television news program in New
York to win an Associated Press award for best regularly
scheduled local news program! ICTV and NewsWatch were
placed in the Class 3 category, competing against other
small market stations such as Binghamton, Elmira, Plattsburgh,
and Utica. Jeff Saperstone '03, Peter Busa '05, Emily
Riemer '03, and Adam Aurand '04, attended the banquet.
Jeff Saperstone, News Director for the winning November
14, 2002 newscast, said: "Towards the end of the
night when our name was called up, there was an audible
gasp in the crowd. People were genuinely surprised and
congratulatory towards us. In fact many in the biz approached
us after the ceremony and congratulated us in person."
Judges
for the event told attendees, "We realize this may
upset the upstate New York applecart, but these anchors
are poised beyond their years. Creative stories, balanced
anchors, good use of graphics, good newscast."
Congratulations
to all who participated in the cast, and have worked hard
to make NewsWatch 16 such an amazing program.
