Christine Shultz, a Television-Radio major, spent the 2012 summer interning with the CBS television station in Baltimore, MD.
Christine was a general newsroom intern, which meant that she rotated between various aspects of the news department. Some days she worked with the assignment editors at the news desk, performing tasks such as answering the phones, and helping to set up interviews for possible stories. She also worked with the web, helping to get news stories onto the website, as well as transcribing reporters’ packages to written stories. Christine cut and uploaded videos onto the website and created photo galleries. She also had the opportunity to shadow reporters and photographers, and to work with Public Affairs.
Christine says she achieved her goals and truly enjoyed the time spent as an intern with CBS. “At the start of the internship I was not sure if this would be the correct career choice for me, and while I am still not 100% sure, I feel much more knowledgeable about the field and what I would be doing as a news reporter,” she says.
Christine had a very good experience with everyone at the station and she would highly recommend the internship to future students. "Go out of your way as an intern in order to get the most out of the program," she advises future interns. "It was important to take initiative to get the most out of the experience."
