|Kiss 108 Radio – “Matty in the Morning” Show, Medford, MA|
Emily Roscoe, a Television-Radio major with a concentration in media production, interned Summer 2012 with Kiss 108 Radio in Medford, MA. Kiss 108 Radio is one of the most prominent Top 40 stations in New England. It is notable for its annual Kiss Concert and Jingle Ball Concert, which attract some of the best-known names in the pop music business.
Emily was a production assistant for the “Matty in the Morning” Show, the most popular show on the station running for over 35 years. She was responsible for setting up the on air studio, podcasting and editing each of the talking segments on the radio station’s website, and assisting and air checking local and celebrity guests. She assisted the production team, searching for and organizing a large history of show segments, all within a fast-paced and time sensitive environment.
Emily says she cherished her time working for Kiss 108 Radio, noting that her internship this summer was the most inspiring working experience she's had. “Be relaxed! The staff likes interns who they can joke around with. If they think you are funny, they will even put you on air,” she advises future interns. “Lighten up and enjoy your time here. Even though it is early mornings, it is so worth it,” she says.
Her experience as an intern for Kiss 108 Radio motivated her to become more involved in IC's WICB FM where she is a DJ, and now a member of the executive staff. Her experience gave her the opportunity to apply what she had learned in the classroom, gave her the opportunity to observe how professionals act in her chosen field, and helped her reaffirm her career aspirations.
