Spring 2012 Information

MANDATORY ORIENTATION SESSION
SUNDAY, OCTOBER 9, 2011, PARK SCHOOL AUDITORIUM, 7:00-8:30pm
This is a mandatory session. You will be receiving important information pertaining to housing, transportation, academics, internships, and living in Los Angeles.

REGISTRATION FOR SPRING 2012 LOS ANGELES CLASSES
You will be registering for your Spring 2012 courses on the same day you would register if you were returning to campus. Further details on Spring 2012 courses will be distributed at the orientation session. 

INTERNSHIPS
Details pertaining to your internship search will be distributed at the October 9th meeting, but if you wish to begin researching potential internship sites, you may explore the major media conglomorate sites or our internship database.

  1. Click on “Internships” in the left column.
  2. In the left column, click on “Major Media Conglomerates”: this page will provide you links to the major media conglomerates/companies (NBC-Universal, MTV, etc.)
  3. Back on the main “Internships” page, in the center of the page, under “Internship  Database,” click on the link “internship database.” User your Netpass Username and Password to get into the database.
  4. Under “Search for Internships,” click on “California” for State. You can then proceed to search based on the general categories or do a search (by company name, by a keyword, etc.)

At this point, it is too early to begin contacting companies. Further instructions will be provided at the October 9th orientation meeting.

IMPORTANT: Students participating in the Los Angeles Program are not permitted to accept an internship until receiving permission from the ICLA Program Director. If you are offered an internship and are considering accepting it, e‐mail Stephen Tropiano at laprogram@ithaca.edu.

RESIDENT ASSISTANT APPLICATIONS
All Ithaca College students attending the Los Angeles Program may apply for a Resident Assistant position. You will find the job description, application instructions and online RA application form for Spring 2012 on the Residence Life page.

Completed applications and resumes are due by TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 27, 2011. After completing your application, email your resume to the Programs and Services Coordinator, Jon Bassinger-Flores at jbassingerflores@ithaca.edu.

Applicants selected for interviews will be contacted by e-mail on Monday, October 3. RA interviews will be held on the Ithaca College campus on Monday, October 10 and Tuesday, October 11. Students currently studying abroad will be interviewed by phone or Skype. Hiring decisions will be e-mailed to all interviewed applicants on Friday, October 14.

SPRING 2012 SEMESTER CALENDAR

Friday - Monday, January 6-6

Please do not arrive before 3:30pm if you are checking in on Friday, January 6

Students arrive in LA and check into the Oakwoods South Clubhouse

Oakwood office hours for check in are:

Friday, 3:30pm - 6pm

Saturday, 9am - 6pm

Sunday, 9am - 6pm

Monday, 9am - 8pm

If you arrive during non-office hours, Oakwood security will handle your check in

RA Orientation and training (mandatory)

Los Angeles 101 - Orientation to LA, internships and the ICLA program
