In the Roy H. Park School of Communications, we believe that the best undergraduate education blends rigorous intellectual inquiry and creative professional practice, and that true excellence results when students are passionate about both.
Our students begin immediately to put that theory into practice: from their first semester, they are expected not only to critique but to create mediated messages. And they have access to the school's extraordinary media technologies and portable equipment to ensure that their skill, as well as their creative vision, evolves over time.
Here in Park, we have selected the MacBook Pro as our standard computer and all incoming freshman and transfer students majoring in a Park School program are required to purchase one.
Why has the Park School selected the MacBook Pro? The media and graphics capabilities of the MacBook Pro computer make it uniquely suited to the intensively digital nature of the Park School curriculum. In addition, our teaching, learning, and technical support environments are both simplified and enhanced when every student owns the same type of system. The MacBook Pro uses an Intel Core 2 Duo processor and can thus also run the Windows operating system (for those who are PC fans.)
Even more important, it comes bundled with a suite of multimedia software that will make it possible for all of our students to master all types of multimedia production, including audio, video, and web design, regardless of their major. All students will be able to create all kinds of digital content without having to purchase high-end programs that exceed their individual needs.
