TOTAL POWER: DEAD DEAD DEAD

Stephanie Barber, 2005 16mm 3:00 min.
The film is needy and demands you… is thinking of war and impressionism, death and love… is again at war and wonders at your sincerity. And is perverse.
Stephanie Barber's challenging films lurch the viewer from formalism to ridiculousness, tragedy to humor and, in her best work, these each are balanced and presented with an odd and imaginative aesthetic specific to these pieces. They are deceptively poetic and sculpturally exquisite. Ms. Barber has had solo screenings of her work at MOMA, NY, Anthology Film Archives, the Milwaukee Art Museum, the Yerba Buena Center and many other museums and film houses (H.T.). In December of 2006 Bronze Skull Press published a chapbook of her poetry entitled Poems by S. Barber.
