MICHAEL ROBINSON – CURATOR / FILMMAKER

Over the past five years, Michael Robinson has created a body of film, video and photography work exploring the intersections of structure and nostalgia, employing rigid arrangements of beauty and sentiment to invoke both the poetics of loss and the dangers of mediated experience.

His work has screened at a variety of festivals and galleries including the International Film Festival Rotterdam, The New York Film Festival, The Times BFI London Film Festival, Media City, Cinematexas, The Wexner Center for the Arts, Viennale, ICA London, The Ann Arbor Film Festival, Impakt, The Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, Chicago Filmmakers, and the San Francisco, Oberhausen, and Hong Kong International Film Festivals.  His film “You Don’t Bring Me Flowers” was awarded “Best International Film” at the 2006 Images Festival in Toronto, and “Best of Festival” at the 2006 Milwaukee Underground Film Festival.  He is a co-founder of Philadelphia’s Small Change Film Series. Originally from upstate NY, Michael holds a BFA from Ithaca College, and a MFA from the University of Illinois at Chicago.
