Communication is the key to success, the key to making change happen.

Learn to promote causes, motivate change, and enlighten people to be their best selves at work and in their communities. Be an agent for positive change using contemporary media and technology.

If people look to you as a leader, spokesperson, digital designer, or event planner, you can turn those talents into a field of study and career in our B.S. degree in Communication Management and Design (CMD). You'll explore corporate communication, digital/interaction design, event management, crisis communication, leadership, consulting, and instructional technology.  All of this can be leveraged to make a difference in whatever your passion may be, from workplace diversity to sustainability or from world health to the arts and music.

You’ll be enrolled in classes in your major from day one that give you both a knowledge base and a realistic view of potential career paths including an executive speechwriter and presentation designer, instructional media designer/producer, event planner, social media coordinator, webmaster, and community relations manager. Students have the option to select one of two concentrations: corporate communication or communication design. By the time you graduate, you’ll be prepared to lead organizations in their creative and strategic communication initiatives.

Additionally, many students of CMD become involved in student government and/or our student media and clubs, particularly Park Promotions, the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC), 180 Degree Consulting, and Event Planners Ithaca College (EPIC). Check out our student media and student publications & clubs page.

Students interested in this area may also wish to explore our minor in Live Event Design and Management.
