Careers in Documentary

In North America and around the world, the documentary field has been steadily growing, and most productions today are nonfiction.

Students interested in production learn skills appropriate for careers as producers, directors, cinematographers, film and video editors, news reporters, sound mixers and recordists, researchers, writers, photographers, and production managers. Students with strong academic goals are prepared for graduate school and for careers such as arts administrator, critic, film festival staffer, public policy researcher, museum curator, teacher or college professor.

Our interns and alumni work throughout the media world, for employers such as the History Channel, the Discovery Networks, HBO, PBS, ABC, A&E, CBS, CNN, NBC, Fox, Disney, National Geographic, MTV, E!, Ken Burns, Morgan Spurlock, Mark Burnett Productions, Working Films, Current TV, DreamWorks, Industrial Light & Magic, and MGM, just to name a few.
