Howard Cogan Honored by Ithaca/Tompkins Visitor's Bureau
Former Ithaca College Park advertising professor, Howard ‘Gorges’ Cogan, was honored by the Ithaca/Tompkins Visitor’s Bureau for his creation of the slogan “Ithaca is Gorges” and his dedication to the community.
The Ithaca Journal reported on the unveiling of a retrospective of Howard’s life, who passed away in 2008, that occurred at the Ithaca/Tompkins Visitor’s Bureau with his wife, Helen, cutting the ribbon and his daughter, Judy, looking on.
Howard Cogan not only coined the slogan “Ithaca is Gorges” and owned Cogan Associates, but he was a dedicated professor at Ithaca College. One of the courses taught by Howard was “AdLab”. AdLab is a senior level course that allows students to participate in the American Advertising Federation’s (AAF) annual National Student Advertising Competition. During his time at Ithaca College, Howard led teams to five regional victories and in 1993; the team won the National Competition.
The AdLab continues to compete in the annual National Student Advertising Competition, in part, due to donations from the Cogan family.
