IMC Majors Morley ’14 and James ’16 Attend the International Association of Business Communicators Regional Conference in Pittsburgh
IMC majors Georgie Morley ’14 and Kyle James ’16 attended the International Association of Business Communicators regional conference from October 14 to 16. Together with three other Park School students, representing Ithaca College’s student chapter of IABC, Morley and James traveled to Pittsburgh, Pa., for the Heritage Region’s annual professional conference.
The conference included a case study competition for students, several networking events, two days of professional workshops and three keynote speakers from different communication professions. Workshop topics ranged from employee engagement to utilizing mobile marketing.
Morley, James and the other Ithaca College students participated in several workshops related to social media marketing. Ithaca’s IABC members took advantage of the conference’s hashtag #IABCHR2012 to interact and engage with members on and offline. James won "Digital Cultures," a book written by workshop presenter Jerry Allocca, because he tweeted at Allocca using the hashtag #IABCHR2012. The group documented their trip in photos and tweets using storify: http://storify.com/georgiemorley/iabc-goes-to-pittsburgh-10-13-16
The IABC students explored Pittsburgh's eateries with professional IABC members after a long day of learning about communications. This opportunity allowed the students to casually network and learn more about the professional members’ careers.
Morley said, “One of my favorite aspects of these kinds of events is making personal connections with people whose careers I aspire to have.” James gained valuable skills from the conference and said, “The conference helped me learn so much about preparing for a career in communications and so much more. It was an unforgettable experience.”
