Leadership Positions in OSEMA
In addition to supporting student leadership on campus, the Office of Student Engagement and Multicultural Affairs provides several opportunities for students to work with us and help us further our initiatives.
Summer Orientation Leader (OL's)
The Office of Student Engagement and Multicultural Affairs employs 20 enthusiastic and resourceful students as orientation leaders to assist with summer New Student and Family Orientation. The Orientation Leader staff is, ideally, representative of our diverse undergraduate population. When selecting candidates, we look for a balance of academic year, areas of study, and identity and cultural diversity.
Student Leadership Consultants (SLC's)
A team of 15 SLCs assist with the development and implementation of the programs and services offered by OSEMA. Specific duties include creating marketing materials for events, maintaining databases for student groups, hosting leadership workshops, providing assistance in the Student Activities Center and OSEMA office, and much more. This is a great position for detail-oriented students interested in working with people and events.
Diversity Peer Educators (DPE's)
Diversity Peer Educators are selected from students who have participated in the Cross Cultural Leadership Retreat. The program provides a team of upper-class students with an on-going diversity training experience. Eligible peer educators will then facilitate interactive workshops with peers, primarily first-year students, over the course of the academic year.
The Jumpstart Program provides an opportunity for new students to transition into college and get acquainted with peers before the semester begins in one of four specially designed programs. Current students serve as leaders and will be volunteering with Jumpstart participants, camping and hiking with them, or leading and participating in other activities. They are also a valuable source of information and advice as students begin their college experience!
