If not, why? One of the best features about eRecruiting is that it's a 2 way system. You can search for jobs & internships, and IF you publishyour resume in the eRecruiting on-line resume book, employers can search for you. Believe it or not, many employers do so. But if your resume isn't published then they can't find you.

Here's how to do it:

  • Go to eRecruiting

  • Login using your full IC e-mail address as your username and your IC student ID number as your password.

  • If you have never uploaded a resume, click on the "Document" link on the menu bar at the top of the page and choose, "Upload A Document" from the pulldown menu. Follow the instructions on the page and your resume will be on eRecruiting. One of the options you will have in this process is to publish it.

  • If you have already uploaded a resume but not published it, then point your mouse at the "Document" link on the menu bar at the top of the page and choose, "Publish A Resume" from the pulldown menu.

  • A list of resume books will appear to from which to choose. You can opt to put your resume in the Ithaca College resume book which is only viewable by employers who have access to the Ithaca system, or the Experience Network resume book. This book is viewable to any employer who uses eRecruiting. You can do both if you wish.

Once you have taken these steps, you may get contacted by an employer with a job or internship opportunity. You are never under any obligation to respond, but being in the resume book does give you greater reach.

The National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) recently released its spring Job Outlook 2007. Conducted four times a year, this report culls information from a national employer survey.

    Here are the highlights:

    • The employment outlook for the college Class of 2007 remains positive, with employers indicating plans to hire 19.2 percent more new college graduates than they hired in 2005-06.

    • Nearly 60 percent of responding employers said they plan to hire more new college graduates in 2006-07 than they did in 2005-06.

    • The hiring outlook is positive in all regions.

    • Nearly nine out of 10 employers said they are seeing increased competition for new college graduates. And, when asked about the big change college recruiting will experience over the next five years, the overwhelming majority cited increased competition.

What does this mean for you? If you are searching for a job, things may be a little easier than in the past. BUT, you still need to do the fundamentals. In other words . . .
    • You must be actively engaged in your search. Simply posting your resume on-line won’t get you where you want to be.

    • A good resume AND cover letter are essential and expected.

    • Networking remains a critical part of a job search. What you know matters, but people you meet can help you too.

    • You must be able to articulate your skills and experiences to an employer. Practice how you will respond to interview questions.

    • Follow-up with your contacts and make sure that they know you are interested in their opportunity.

A good job market may make your life easier, but remember: there’s still work to be done!

This means that employers who are looking for candidates can view your resume and possibly offer you the opportunity to apply for a job or internship. If you haven't published your resume however, they can't find you! Unfortunately, not too many students have taken advantage of this feature. Here's how you do it:

    • Log into eRecruiting.

    • Choose "Documents" from the menu bar at the top of the page.

    • Find the "Publish Resumes" section on the right side of the page and click on the "Go" link.

    • Find "Ithaca College Resume Book" and choose a resume from the pulldown menu.

    • When you have chosen the resume that you'd like to publish, click on the Save button. Then you're done and your resume is viewable to employers!

    • On this same page, you also have the opportunity to publish your resume to the Experience Network Resume Book. This reaches employers who may not be specifically targeting Ithaca College students, but who nevertheless might like to see your resume.

Have you ever left an interview feeling like you’ve made a bad impression and it may have cost you the job?

Don’t let it happen again. Everyone could use a little practice and boost in confidence when it comes to interviewing. That's why we've scheduled Mock Interview Day. This event gives you the opportunity to practice interviewing skills with professionals, but without the pressure of getting hired. They'll provide you with immediate feedback so you’ll know your strengths and what you need to work on for the real thing. Go for it, you’ve got nothing to lose!

    Date: Tuesday, October 10, 2006 from 12:00pm to 4:00pm
    Location: Emerson Suites, Campus Center

Interviews will focus on questions that are typically asked in an initial interview, so students from other disciplines can still interview with our interviewers. Our guest interviewers include:

    • Dr. Douglas W. Chappell of Tompkins-Seneca-Tioga BOCES
    • Ms. Kim Lorson of Chemung Canal Trust Company
    • Ms. Veronica Perina of the Women’s Opportunity Center
    • Ms. Debbie Luchsinger of First Niagra Financial Group
    • Ms. Katy Ericson of Adecco Health
    • Ms. Nicole Bradwell of Robert Half

Interviews will be scheduled on the half hour. Spaces are limited and will be assigned on a first come, first served basis. To arrange an interview, stop in to Career Services with a copy of your resume today. Students from all class years are encouraged to participate and professional attire is suggested.
