Ithaca College faculty are sharing advice & tips on things you can do now to prepare for graduation and your career, as well as things to make sure you do before leaving Ithaca.  New quotes will be posted every few days, so check back again soon!

"Always network with IC alumni to find and share information on jobs, entry-level and later in your career, and learn how to use the "Advanced" search function on LinkedIn. Keep in touch with your professors, too." - Scott Hamula, Associate Professor & Chair, Strategic Communication

"Make sure you take the time to write a HAND-WRITTEN note to anyone you've established a network connection with, such as an internship supervisor or a guest speaker you've recently met, thanking them for the impact they've had on your educational experience as you're now getting ready to graduate. Maybe include an Ithaca College lanyard. Little gestures like this can go a long way in establishing a career path." - Peter Johanns, Associate Professor, Program Director, Television-Radio Degree

"Go to Upper Treman Park and walk the Gorge Trail" -Stephen Sweet, Associate Professor of Sociology

"If at first you don't succeed at getting your dream job, try not to look astonished!"
"Make sure you research the company's benefits (health care, dental, life insurance, disability insurance, Paid Time Away (or PTA), vacation, Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), retirement contributions (503B or 401K, matching or not), extra perks (discounts on pet insurance or gym memberships, etc.), domestic and same sex partner benefits, and anything else the company might offer. And, more importantly, know how to use that information to negotiate a better salary. This also entails doing a search at O*Net center,
http://www.onetonline.org/, for the salary range that would be appropriate for entry level positions."
"Tap into and use our extensive network of Alumni not only for jobs, but for internships and informational interviews as well."
-Cory Young, Associate Professor and Chair Graduate Program, Strategic Communication
