Forming Faith Communities

It is the responsibility of the student leaders to help create and maintain a sense of a faith community at Ithaca College.  To do this, the Forming Faith Communities Committee is divided into sub-committees.  The overall goal of the committee is to reach out to those in the community and work to create an inviting environment.  

Liturgy Committee

The liturgy committee assists in planning Masses and prayer services throughout the year.  To learn more about this committee and their meeting times, contact Molly Mattingly, (mmattin1@ithaca.edu).

Liturgical Ministers

There are many ways to be involved in the liturgy, including becoming a Lector or Communion Minister.  Another option is to become a Mass Coordinator, which is much like an altar server.  If you are trained as a Lector or Communion Minister and would like to be added to the schedule, please contact Steph Elowson (selowso1@ithaca.edu) with the Mass time you normally plan to attend.  If you would like to be trained as a Lector or Communion Minister, please contact Father Carsten (cmartensen@ithaca.edu) with times you are available to train.  Finally, if you are interested in becoming a Mass Coordinator, please contact Kris Williamson (kwillia2@gmail.com).

Social Committee

The social committee plans and coordinates all the fun activities we do in the Catholic Community.  Some events we have done in the past include parish picnics, apple picking, miniature golfing, Halloween parties, and Thanksgiving dinners.  If you are interested in becoming a part of the social committee, please contact Steph Elowson (selowso1@ithaca.edu), Caroline Keras (ckeras1@ithaca.edu), or Eric Hojnowski (ehojnow1@ithaca.edu).

Retreat Team

The retreat team plans various retreats throughout the year.  They work with Father Carsten to decide what the theme of the retreat will be, what will be discussed, and what prayers to use.  We generally have three retreats per year: the First Year Retreat, the Fall Retreat, and the Spring Retreat.  If you are interested in joining the retreat team, please contact Father Carsten (cmartensen@ithaca.edu).

Youth Outreach

The youth outreach committee plans events throughout the year with high school students in the Tompkins County area.  They plan retreats and social events for the teens.  If you are interested in being a part of the youth outreach committee, please contact Caroline Keras (ckeras1@ithaca.edu).
