i Am Diverse Campaign
It is difficult to have a conversation about diversity and race, even between two intimate friends, nevermind a conversation involving over 8,250 students, faculty, and staff of a college campus. In 2008-9, we launched the "i Am Diverse" campaign to start a campus conversation about diversity. It was a very visible campaign, and we attracted a share of critics as well as praise. We put the campaign on hold after 1 month and 19 days. Some would argue that we inspired even more reflection than we had hoped for, while others thought that we diminished the importance of race and ethnicity in our thinking about diversity.
