Academic Advising

Preparing for Course Registration

Course registration for future semesters will be different than summer orientation.  You are responsible for gathering all the resources you will need to register for classes.  Consider the following details:

  • Be familiar with the academic calendar which includes registration, drop/add, WD deadlines etc.
  • Identify the dates on the academic calendar for on-line course registration
  • Identify your advance registration access time. This is the time you will begin registering. All processes, listed below need to occur prior to your access time.  You will find the access time via the Registrar's home page.
  • Make an appointment with your advisor
  • Identify if you have any holds on your account and if so work to remove them prior to your registration date. To identify if you have any holds:
    1. Go to www.ithaca.edu/registrar
    2. Click on Student Links
    3. Click on the blue HomerConnect box on the left, under General Student Information
    4. Click the log-in button near the top left corner, and log-in using your assigned UserID & Pin
    5. Click on the “Student, Financial Aid, and Residential Life” link
    6. Click on the “Student Records and Billing Information” link
    7. Click on the “View Holds” link, and you can see if there are any holds on your record
  • Review the semester course offerings available on-line via HomerConnect
  • If you have selected a major, review degree and major requirements (found in the IC undergraduate catalog)
  • If you have not selected a major, be prepared to discuss with your advisor any areas of interest you would like to explore
  • Set priorities (e.g., keep in mind specific degree requirements, times available to take classes, course sequencing)
  • Identify courses that interest you and meet degree requirements
  • Register for your courses via HomerConnect on your registration access day
