Ithaca Achievement Program

The Ithaca Achievement Program is a community of learners dedicated to personal and academic success. ALANA students who enroll in this academic program participate in a wide variety of educational, cultural, social and community service activities to enhance their success. Students may join IAP as an entering freshman or as rising sophomores or juniors. The intent of the Ithaca Achiever's Grant is to help reduce need based loan debt and/or to fill in gap between other aid offered and the expected family contribution.

There are three main components to the IAP program.

  • Academic Achievement - IAP students work with professional academic consultants and counselors who assist in achieving a 3.0 or above accumulative grade point average each semester.
  • Individual Educational Plan/Professional growth - Each IAP student will work with the Assistant Director of the Office of Multicultural Affairs to develop an educational plan that best matches their personal, academic, and professional goals. Participants meet with the Assistant Director monthly to discuss progress.
  • Leadership Development/Community Involvement - IAP students participate in a team project, leadership workshops, and are encouraged to attend at least 2 leadership conferences before graduation. For the team project, students are asked to identify a community need, select a project concept, plan and implement that concept, and present their outcomes. This assists each student participant in identifying their strengths and weaknesses in working in groups and as individuals.

Students who participate in IAP are also eligible to receive the Ithaca Achiever's Grant. In order to be financially eligible for the Ithaca Achiever's Grant students must have:

  • Filed the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA); and,
  • Have unmet need and/or have need-based loan(s) such as a subsidized Stafford loan or Perkins loan in their aid package.

Please note the following: Any student who is a recipient of a Merit Scholarship (this includes a President's Scholarship, a Dean's Scholarship, and ALANA scholarship, or a Park Scholarship) is not eligible to receive the Ithaca Achiever's Grant. You may, however participate in all aspects of the program. If you are unsure as to whether you would be eligible to receive the Ithaca Achiever's Grant, please contact the Office of Financial Aid at 800-429-4275.
