School-Record 16 Bombers Earn All-District Academic Honors

A school-record 16 Ithaca student-athletes have been named to District I all-academic teams this year. Nominees to the academic all-district teams, which are voted on by sports information directors, must be sophomores, juniors or seniors whose cumulative grade-point average is at least 3.2.




Teams are chosen in baseball, men's basketball, women's basketball, men's cross country/track & field, women's cross country/track & field, football, men's soccer, women's soccer, softball and volleyball. In addition, a men's at-large team (covering the sports of lacrosse, swimming & diving, tennis and wrestling) and a women's at-large team (covering the sports of crew, field hockey, gymnastics, lacrosse, swimming & diving and tennis) are chosen.

Ithaca's 16 award winners are senior Justin Brunell and junior Ryan Terlecki (football); senior Hugo Valencia (menís soccer); senior Kim Gillman and juniors Colleen Masterson and Aimee Meacham (womenís soccer team); junior Katie Hause and sophomore Mary Schaeffer (volleyball); senior Hannah Shalett and juniors Nicole Cade and Jessica Stangarone (softball); senior Jeremy Peters (baseball); senior gymnast Kelly Stevison (womenís at-large); senior wrestler Nick Calandrino (menís at-large) and senior Rachel Blasiak and junior Alison Spivak (women's cross country/track & field). A total of 108 Ithaca athletes have earned academic all-district honors over the past 10 years.

The District I All-Academic Teams honor student-athletes from NCAA Division II and III and NAIA Division II schools in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island and Vermont.
